CONSTRUINDO EM WEST MELBOURNE

Este edifício encontra-se implantado em um antigo bairro que está se transformando devido ao fenômeno de gentrificação. Provavelmente nos próximos anos o número de residências aumentará na região. Tendo isto em mente, o Hotel foi projetado para este contexto - a arquitetura não é agressiva ao pedestre e respeita as características históricas do bairro.

A primeira ação tomada foi dividir o programa em dois usos distintos: o hotel e o centro de convenções. Esta estratégia facilitou a organização espacial já que, enquanto o hotel possui majoritariamente espaços privativos, o centro de convenções é essencialmente um espaço público. Apesar destas atividades estarem separadas em dois volumes distintos, elas estão perfeitamente integradas pelos espaços de transição, como a passarela que conecta a galeria ao restaurante.

Os usuários deste edifìcio devem experienciar uma variedade de espaços que vão desde a rua de pedestres que dá acesso aos edifícios até o confortável quarto do hotel.

BUILDING IN WEST MELBOURNE

This building is sited in an old neighborhood which is changing due to the phenomenon of gentrification. In the next years it will probably have a rise of residences. Having this in mind the Motel was designed to fit in this future context - the architecture is not aggressive to the pedestrian, and the main neighborhood’s historic features were respected.

The first strategy was split the program in two distinct uses: the motel/hostel and the groups of interests. This strategy facilitates the space arrangement as, while the motel have predomnantly privative spaces, the groups activities are mainly public and social. Despite these activities be separated in two different volumes, they are perffectly integrated by the transition spaces such as the footbridge on the restaurant level.

The occupants of this building should experience a range of distinct spaces which varies from the public lane that gives access to the building up to the confortable bedroom of the hotel.
